The Toum Teav

There is no better way to discover the rhythms of the Mekong-- the syncopated jazz of Vietnam, the languorous melodies of Cambodia-- than a cruise up the river itself. The Toum Teav guides us on a continual discovery through the Land of Nine Dragons and beyond…

Designed in 2002 by the Compagnie Fluviale du Mekong and built out of hard tropical woods and using traditional methods, this small cruising boat offers luxury accommodation inspired by the adventures of French author Pierre Loti. The 11 cabins are graced with authentic touches such as brass ceiling fans and old colonial prints, with shuttered windows that open out directly onto the ever-bustling daily life of the river. The library lounge is furnished in an art deco style and the top-deck is the perfect spot for an afternoon tea. The staff concoct daily treats such as curry coco calamari and personify the warmth of Asian hospitality, all the while ushering its guests into the very heart of the Mekong, «Mother of all waters», its civilizations and its legends.
